Is it possible to measure diastolic strain?
By using the "Reverse peak" checkbox in VevoStrain (top right corner on the segmental analysis page), one can get diastolic strain / strain rate information. However there are some considerations:
1. It can be a noisy measure (it is the first derivative of strain, and sometimes there is more than one peak).
2. It is dependent on the loading conditions (preload and afterload).
3. It should be normalized for the stress perpendicular to the wall (stress / strain ratio), which requires knowledge of the intraventricular pressure.
