R. Douglas Armstrong, Ph.D. and Riccardo Pigliucci have joined the VisualSonics’ Board of Directors.
Dr. Armstrong is a seasoned executive with specialties in developmental life science businesses and products. He is Managing Director at Dawson James Securities. Prior to that he was CEO of Aastrom Biosciences Inc., a leading public cell therapy company from 1999 – 2006 and was Chairman of the Board of Directors. From 1987 to June 1991, he held various executive positions at The Burnham Institute including Executive Vice President, Member Board of Trustees, and Staff Scientist. Dr. Armstrong’s other Board experience includes Chairman of Supervisory Board of Zellera AG (1999 – 2005), Member of Board of Directors of Cytomedix Inc. (2000 – 2001), Member of Board of Directors of Nephros Therapeutics, Inc. (1994 – 2000), Member of the Advisory Board of Wolverine Venture Fund (1997 –2001), Chairman and Founder of Michigan Center for Cell Therapy (2001 – 2005), and Member of Board of Trustees of the La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation (1989-1991).
Mr. Pigliucci is an international executive with global experience in leading private and publicly listed high technology companies. He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Partners International, a supplier of equipment and services to the drug discovery market. Prior to joining Discovery Partners, Mr. Pigliucci served as Chief Executive Officer of Life Sciences International PLC, a supplier of scientific equipment from 1996 to 1997. Prior to that, Mr. Pigliucci held numerous management positions at Perkin-Elmer Corporation (now known as Applera Corporation), including President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Pigliucci is also a director of Biosphere Medical and a member of the Board of Directors of the Dionex Corporation. Mr. Pigliucci’s past Board experience includes Director of Epoch Bioscience (2000 – 2004) and MTI Corp (1995 – 1998), and Trustee of The Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research (1993-2004).
